Scouts in Troop 183 look for adventure, and find it in the monthly camping, yearly summer camp, and  high-adventure trips. When pursuing these activities, most rank advancement falls into place.  Activities include camporees, service projects, and a yearly electronics lock-in.

Adventure

Recent events have taken us backpacking, climbing, canoeing, shooting, and caving. Summer camp opens opportunities for 4-wheeling, sailing, and much more. Several scouts traveled to West Virginia and attended the latest national jamboree! Boys crave adventure and even (especially) when things get challenging, the best comes out in them.

Rank Advancement

New scouts focus on learning scouting skills and progress through the ranks of Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class, hopefully in the first year. The scout leadership team lead by the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) and assisted by the Patrol Leaders’ Council (PLC) fills weekly meetings and campouts with items that help boys advance. Older scouts change their focus to leadership development while earning the ranks of Star, Life, and Eagle (hopefully complete before the deadline of his 18th birthday)!

This range of ages and mix of structure and adventure is the perfect mix to challenge a group of boys and keep them motivated. Adult leaders assist in all of this and ensure scouts stay safe, but the purpose of scouting is to ensure this happens through boy leadership.
